Paul O'Healihy fires home our opening goal from the penalty spot in our 5-0 win over Conmans Munters

Athletic opened up a two point in the race for the championship with a 5-0 win away to third place side Conmans Munters.

The home team had been destroyed by a first half four-goal burst, and although Onesimo Murube’s second goal of the afternoon was the only one in the second half, there was never any danger of the home side making a comeback.

Paul O’Healihy opened the scoring from the penalty spot in twenty-six minutes after a contentious award.

“Personally, I think it looked pretty soft”, said the Irishman afterwards, “but we’ve had plenty like this given against us, so I’m not complaining”.

Onesimo Murube made it 2-0 nine minutes later, and despite dominating the game, Brook Street were unable to add to their lead until two goals in a minute just before half-time, from Yann Schories and Eldvinas Sumlinskas, gave the score-line a more accurate appearance.

Athletic continued to completely dominate the second half, but only Onesimo Murube managed to find the net; his fifth goal in two league games since signing. This however didn’t worry coach Arjen Bogaert though.

“Were we playing another team, it may have been of concern, however this is Munters’ record league defeat, so it shows just how good a performance it was”.

He continued, “If we continue with performances like this, we should be there or thereabouts come the end of the season”.
