Athletic’s reserve side slumped to a 0-2 defeat against Zernoff FC in Chisinau this afternoon, the Moldovan side’s goals coming a minute before half-time and seven minutes from the end.

Although the defeat in itself was disappointing, it was the performance of the team and their inability to create any openings for the forwards that Arjen thought was of more concern.

“Zernoff are a very good side playing at a much higher level than us, so it’s no real surprise that they dominated the match and got the win. What bothered me more was the fact that we couldn’t create a single chance in the ninety minutes”.

He continued, “Too many of our passes went awry and they bossed the midfield. We’ve got to sharpen up, and it may be that we’ll have to concentrate on this in training”.

He did however add, “It was an invaluable exercise for us though, and a real bonus to play against a side so highly ranked in their country. We now see where we’ve got to sharpen up, and it will help us in our preparations for next season”.
