Kyle Fair leads by example to fire Brook Street into the lead this afternoon.

Although the destination of the championship had been decided last week and the visitors were in no danger of being dragged into the play-off positions, Athletic and speccy’s saints served up a highly entertaining match in front of the first full-house of the season at New Home Park this afternoon.

Leading by example, Kyle Fair opened the scoring after a fine solo run in the twenty-third minute, while vice-captain Andy Hautala doubled the lead nine minutes after the break.

Nemanja Janković rattled the crossbar in sixty-four minutes, but it was the visitors who were to get back into the match with ten minutes remaining through Raúl Lefler.

Onésimo Murube almost restored Brook Street’s two-goal advantage in the eighty-second minute, however saints’ keeper Władysław Konwa pulled off a breathtaking save to deny the Spaniard.

Dimas Cambre had Brook Street hearts in mouths a minute later, but fortunately the saints’ midfielder blazed wide.

The remaining seven minutes probably seemed to be the longest of the season, but Athletic’s players used all their experience to kill the game and run the clock down, and at full-time, the celebrations could really begin.

Arjen said, “It’s not our best performance of the season, but we got the win that we were looking for. We’ll just have to wait and see who we get in the play-off, but now however, we party!”
