Just days after being promoted from the Academy, teenage defender Kevin Jenkinson made a scoring debut for Brook Street as the reserves eased to a 4-0 win over F.C. GUN’S 06 in Peru early this morning.

Further goals from Emanuel Bohucký and Igor Zhigalov had Brook Street 3-0 up at the break, and Igor’s second of the game five minutes into the second half wrapped up the win.

Arjen was pleased with the performance, particularly that of the younger players, who he said are “getting better and better with every game that passes”.

Of Kevin he said, “He was flung in at the deep end tonight, but acquitted himself well. He’s only just come up from the Academy so he’s got a lot to learn. We cannot afford to wrap the younger players in cotton wool, and the best way from them to learn is by playing”.

He continued, “He’s made a good start with the senior side, but he can’t rest on his laurels. He’ll be given targets now to meet, so he will have to work very hard. Kevin knows that though, and we hope he’s only the first of the current crop of Under-19s to make it into the senior side”.

It wasn’t all good news for Brook Street however as Dario Zintu limped off with only twenty minutes played.

When asked if the injury was serious, Arjen replied, “We’ll have to wait until the swelling goes down before we can make an accurate assessment, but I don’t think there’s any lasting damage”.
