Onésimo Murube can’t believe his luck as his shot cannons back off the post and away to safety.

Brook Street’s five-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt at New Home Park this afternoon as Blue Order ran out 3-1 winners. Athletic’s cause was also not helped by Paul O’Healihy’s ordering off for two bookable offences three minutes before the break.

“That didn’t help”, admitted Marcus on the Irishman’s red card at the post-match press conference, “but we were already down two goals by that stage”.

The coach bemoaned his side’s bad luck citing the two occasions when the woodwork was rattled which he felt, “could have significantly altered the outcome”.

However he added, “That’s all hearsay. Ifs and buts don’t win games, scoring more goals than the opposition does, and that’s exactly where we failed today. Oleg’s goal, good as it was, was nothing more than a consolation, and that is very disappointing”.

The coach now has to pick up the team ahead of Wednesday’s historic Scottish Cup tie, and it remains to be seen whether he will rotate the team.

“I’ll sleep on that for a couple of nights before making my final decision”, Marcus said. “Now is not the time to be making any rash decisions”.

One enforced change will be the omission of Paul O’Healihy who will be suspended for the Cup tie.
