Three second-half goals from Matt Cocker (2) and Fraser Carragher saw the reserves run out 3-0 winners against their counterparts from Georgian Liga side GUDAUTA in Abkhazia this afternoon.

In a close first half it was the home side who created the only chance however despite the Brook Street defence making a meal of clearing the ball, they were unable to force the ball home.

Brook Street stepped up a gear in the second half and Fraser Carragher almost gave us the lead in the seventy-second minute with a delicate lob over the keeper, but to his clear dismay the ball bounced off the top of the crossbar and out to safety.

Fraser’s disappointment didn’t last long though as it was from his free-kick a minute later that the deadlock was broken.

Knocking the ball into the near post in a well-rehearsed move, the ball was flicked on by Oleg Zhigalov straight into the path of the onrushing Matt Cocker who slammed the ball home.

Piling on the pressure Brook Street went two up a minute later and it was Fraser’s turn to get on the scoresheet, blasting a free-kick home which left the keeper rooted to the spot.

GUDAUTA almost pulled a goal back in eighty-three minutes, but the shot was week and ended up in the keeper’s arms.

Matt Cocker won’t have many easier chances to score than the one presented to him with three minutes left, when the home defence got themselves into an unholy mess leaving him one-on-one with the home keeper. He wasn’t about to pass that up, and proceeded to round the keeper and knock the ball into the empty net.

“The lads were very professional out there today”, admitted Marcus, “and they took their chances when they arose. I can’t ask more of them than that”.

Turning to Matt Cocker’s performance he said, “Matt’s in rich scoring form at the moment. That’s six goals in his last three games, and if he continues like that he’ll move up the ranks quickly”.

The coach also cautioned, “He’s only young though so dips in form are inevitable. We’ll be very patient with him though as he is showing great promise and I think he’s going to be a terrific player”.
