Lloyd Stephen powers home his second goal of the game to make the score 6-0.

Brook Street’s reserves made heavy weather of it in the first half of their friendly match with Yokel’s United’s International Team at New Home Park this morning, but there was only one winner in the second as the Iraqi’s were swept aside.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Athletic were only two up at the break thanks to strikes from Oleg Zhigalov and Kenny Corney, despite dominating the half, but whatever Marcus Lövman said at the break, certainly did the trick as they turned their dominance into goals.

Emanuel Bohucký got the ball rolling just after the hour mark, and Garabed Palasyan made it 4-0 with a fine solo effort in the seventieth minute. Two headed goals in quick succession by Lloyd Stephen had Brook Street six up with nine minutes remaining, and Phil Mullally rounded off the scoring with four minutes left.

“We took a while to get going today, but once we got into our stride there was no stopping us”, said Marcus at full-time.

When asked if he’d used the “hairdryer treatment” at the break, the Brook Street coach laughed and said, “No, it wasn’t anything like that. I just told the players to use the full width of the pitch and the goals would come. We pulled them all over the place which left gaps at the back and we exploited these to the full”.
