CorneyAs anticipated, Kenny Corney this morning completed a £192,000 move to Iranian League Division 6 side seven group. Having failed to establish himself in the first team, coach Marcus Lövman said, “Kenny was moving down the pecking order instead of up, so it made sense to move him on”.

He continued, “We’ve brought in a few younger defenders, and there are a number coming through at the Academy, so if they all progress as we anticipate, Kenny’s opportunities would undoubtedly become even more limited. It didn’t make any sense in keeping him playing in the reserves and so we decided together that it would benefit all parties if he found a new club.

Of the move itself, Marcus said, “A bit of a bidding battle broke out so we’ve ended up with a much bigger fee than we had expected. Kenny’s got a new club and a fresh start, and we’ve got a big cheque for the Academy. Everyone’s a winner really”.

He finished by wishing Kenny good luck in Iran saying, “I’m sure Kenny will do well with seven group. They’re a young club and having won promotion in their first season, they’ll need to strengthen. Kenny fits the bill there and I’m sure he will be a hit. We all wish him the very best of luck with his new club”.

Kenny’s Brook Street record since promoting from the Academy was:
