Jake MacConnechy fires in our second and winning goal against Vines Cross last season

Brook Street face Vines Cross at New Home Park tomorrow in what will be the ninth meeting between the sides. Until last season, our record against them was a straightforward, Played 6; Lost 6, however, last term saw the tide turn with Athletic recording a win and a draw.

“It’s fair to say that our record prior to last season was a big embarrassment, so it was a relief when we did so much better last season”, admitted Marcus at the Friday press conference.

Alluding to his side’s newfound ability to score at will again Marcus said, “We’ve got our shooting boots on now, we’ll be looking to continue our fine form into this game”.

“Vines are a very good side though, and although they don’t always score many goals, they’re always tight at the back. We’ve got to be smart to get through while keeping things tight at the back ourselves, as they’re more than capable of hitting us on the break”.

Vines bowed out of the Scottish Cup only this week, losing 2-0 to League II side cthulhu wanderers, but Marcus pointed out that, “This was only their second defeat of the season, so they’ve clearly made a very good start”.

Two wins, a draw and a defeat, ironically against EK Tuggers, have seen them rise to second place in the Division, albeit five points behind runaway leaders Carbrain FC and one ahead both ourselves and Kessler’s Eleven.

Going into the match, Brook Street are reporting no problems, so Marcus will bave a full squad to select from, but the Vines squad will be without midfielders Eugenio Malo and Stoycho Drenski who are sidelined for two and three weeks respectively.

The match kicks off at 16:30.
