Andrew Cleary in action against Giant Football Club at New Home Park this morning

Despite having the lion’s share of possession, Brook Street were incapable of finding a way through the Giant defence, and went down to Nicolae Munteanu’s solitary second half strike.

Of added concern to the management team will be injury sustained by Andrew Cleary which could see the youngster sidelines for up to two weeks.

“Andrew’s taken a nasty one on the shin so we’re not sure how long he’ll be missing. The doc initially reckons on a fortnight, but we’ll just have to wait and see”.

He added, “It was a bad-tempered game, and there are a number of players who are nursing knocks of varying degrees”.

Turning to the performance in general he said, “It’s frustrating and disappointing that we lacked the guile to create an opening, and that’s clearly something we’ve got to work at”.

He continued, “Giant FC were very strong in defence and they worked very hard. They were happy to let us knock the ball around and hit us on the break, but we lacked an incisive cutting edge, and that’s where we’ve fallen down”.

“As we’ll be down by a striker for the next couple of games, we’ll experiment with the line-up a bit more that we would have otherwise, so in that respect it’s not quite so bad a situation to be in”, he concluded.
