Matt Cocker stabs the ball home to put us 3-2 up and on the road to the next round.

The reserves created another piece of club history this lunchtime as their unexpected 4-2 victory over Division III side Sgt Peppers propelled them into the last thirty-two of a national cup competition for the first time. There, they’ll face Division II side Leatherbacks.

“It was a tremendous performance by the lads, and they’ve got their reward”, said a jubilant Leoš Loos at the final whistle. “When Peppers scored the two quick goals we could have folded, but to their credit the players re-grouped and we got ourselves back in the game before half-time”.

The coach went on, “In the second half we created a lot more while keeping things tight at the back, and fortunately took two of those chances to see us through”. He continued, “I’d have rathered we’d scored the penalty to kill the game off, but we’re through and that’s all that matters”.

“To be perfectly honest, we didn’t expect to be in this position, but we are and we’ll go again next week against Leatherbacks. However they’re a Division II side and that’s a whole different prospect”. He finished by saying, “It’s a one-off game though, and as today proved, anything can happen”.
